In Memory Of Grandma
-- by Tammi Lisius (Sutton) - Copyright 1998--
I miss my grandma so very much,
her lovely smile, and gentle touch.
When I was down she always knew,
just what to say and what to do.
With every smile and each embrace,
She'd put A smile upon my face.
Every day and every night, her face
in my memory is like the morning light.
Even now she's gone we're not apart,
She'll always have a place in my heart.
My grandma to me will always be,
the most special person I ever did see.
Her memory will never fade away,
she'll walk beside me every day.

Dorothy's maiden name was Bientema, born December 29, 1909, in Rock Island, IL.She married George Oliver Berhenke, March 16 1924. She was the loving mother of 11 Children. Donald, Dorothy, Kenneth, George, Jerry, Arlene,Delores, Ernest, Daryl, and JoAnn.

When asked why she had so many children, she would say "when one started walking I needed another to hold." She was the most loving, kind and gentle women I have ever met. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone. And was always there when ever anyone needed her. She would always put others needs before her own. She was never one to complain about anything.

One can only imagine the kind of pain she indured through her life, and in her battle with cancer, but you never heard her complain. Through all her trials she remained faithful to God and her family, the most heavenly women one could ever know. Dorothy was a house wife, with many talents. She love to sew, crochet, bake, tend to her garden, or just relax in her swing listening to the birds sing, and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy was called home November 7, 1986 at the age of 76, as a result of colon cancer. Her body was layed to rest at greenview memorial gardens in East Moline,IL.

May she rest in peace until we meet again...

"The Bible"

I hold in my hands a treasure so rare,
I close my eyes and imagine I'm there,
When she wrote each name with care,
Not knowing with me some day she'd share.

Bible

Could she have known what a jewel it would be?
That it would be something I waited to see?
That one hundred years later the Bible I'd hold,
That in it's pages more that God's story is told.

Bible

I imagine she was proud of her family,
For what greater gift could there be,
Did she imagine the family to come?
That I would be from the family of her son?

Bible

This family heirloom I will handle with care,
So that in another hundred years it will be there,
For my great-great-grandchildren may it be,
A gift they are searching for to add to the family tree
