Donald was the oldest child of George and Dorothy Beintema Berhenke he was born July 29 1926 at their home in Rock Island Illinois.
 
 
 He married Rose Fox April 5 1951, they lived in Country Courts Addition in Moline Illinois, most of their married life. 
They relocated to 15th Street Moline after the Moline Quad City Airport bought their home to enlarge the runways.
 Together they had seven children:
 Donald, Debra, David, Douglas, Darla, Della, and Dena.
He was employed as a Body Mechanic at Tri City Divco B&B Garage in Rock Island Illinois until he retired.

And playing the harmonica.

 He learned to play the harmonica as a young child this is what they did as family entertainment, before they had a radio or television. They would sing and play instruments, some of his brothers would play Guitars or Banjo's what ever they had. They all played music by ear and was self taught. His Father George would play the Juice harp, he also played the Harmonica and Accordion. They often sat around and talked about the old days and how much fun they had.
